Tomic and Master of Wine Jo Ahearne: A Vintage Partnership

Bastijana has been priviliged over the last 14 months to have enjoyed a great working relationship with Master of Wine Jo Ahearne, who in a short space of time has become part of the Tomic family.

Jo arrived last summer with the plan to make her own wine on Hvar, and it has been a thoroughly fascinating exchange of ideas and skills over that time, which have included two harvests. Bastijana has been delighted to help Jo in any way possible, while also benefiting from her considerable expert wine knowledge.

Jo is a regular visitor to the winery in Jelsa from her own base in Sveta Nedjelja, and we look forward not only to continued cooperation, but trying her eagerly awaited wines when they become available!

Tomic Wine Fans Show Their Appreciation in Different Ways

Customers who try Tomic wines expression their appreciation in different ways. The most common way is to murmer a few words of approval during the tasting, perhaps to send a message of thanks after the event. Still others take to social media and blogs to express their satisfaction.

But for some, inspiration gained from Tomic wines leads to creativity, as is clearly the case at Art Farm Mola Blaca on the UNESCO Stari Grad Plain, who recently posted on Facebook that not only was Tomic 'our favourite wine', but they had also designed their own Tomic logo and t-shirts!

Many thanks, and we look forward to seeing you at the Tomic winery soon.

The Wine Tasting Season Continues: Visit the Tomic Stand in Hvar Town

The summer may be over, but wine tasting is a year-round activity, and the team from Tomic, accompanied by other winemakers from the Hvar Wine Association, will be in action in Hvar Town on October 10, presenting a selection of their wines near the City Loggia.

The tasting coincides with the traditional sailboat festival, Festa Forske Pulene, which should add a little more romance to the occasion. Add to that the tunes of the legendary Rade Solaja, and it makes for an excellent evening of quality wine and company.

The Hvar Wine Association has not yet published the starting time, but it is usually 21:00, but check their Facebook page for the latest information

Veliki Plavac Mali: The Perfect Way to Say Farewell to Summer

And so another summer on the magical island of Hvar comes to an end.

It was a hot summer, one of the hottest in living memory, perfect for a glass or two of Tomic Opolo Nobil Rose.

It was a summer full of memories, and for some there was time to reflect on another successful tourist season. Some reflect with conversation, some with photographs, and others with style, as this fan photo from the Pakleni Island of Jerolim shows. How better to take in the last rays of a great summer than with a great bottle of Dalmatian red. A fitting setting for the Tomic Veliki Plavac Mali, a wine to match the magnificent setting.

The Harmonious Sounds of Fermentation at Tomic

Following the example of our great architect Bašić and his famous organs, we in our vinery are also trying to create sound, harmonious sound. Silent fermentation of wine frees up the carbon dioxide which, while passing through the entry point of the tank, produces certain sound which depends on the phase of fermentation and the level of new vine in the tank, which can be regulated. In that way, we produce harmonious sound chords which entertain us during picking and processing of grapes.

Andro Tomic Welcomes Cliff Rames and Fred Dex MS to Jelsa

An American wine theme in Jelsa last night, as Andro Tomic was on hand with other winemakers to welcome two distinguished wine experts from the United States for a dinner with wine tasting at new Jelsa winebar Artichoke.

Cliff Rames is a great friend of Croatian wine and the international pioneer of wine promotion for the country, and he has made a magnificent contribution from his New York base with his Wines of Croatia blog.

Cliff has been joined on this trip by Master Sommelier Fred Dex, on his first trip to Croatia, and what better place to start than in the town of wine in Jelsa. The two managed a quick trip to visit Master of Wine Jo Ahearne and her operation in Sveta Nedjlelja before sitting down to check out the latest from the Hvar wine scene.

Thanks for your visit Cliff and Fred, and we look forward to your next visit. Keep up the promotion, States side!

Here are five great tasting experiences on Hvar, including Tomic.

The Bastijana team is ready for your visit. Simply book your tasting in advance via our website.
