Tomic to Participate in Wine Island on Galesnik Tonight

A real treat in store this evening for wine lovers, as the eco-ethno island of Galesnik on the Pakleni Islands will come alive with an evening of wine, quality food, art and music, as Wine Island kicks off at 19:00.

Included in the event will be 30 of the top wine producers of Slovenia and Croatia, and Bastijana will be pouring the Tomic range as part of a representative stand with the Hvar Wine Association.

Galesnik is the closest of the Pakleni Islands, and the views back to Hvar Town provide the perfect beackdrop to what should be a memorable evening. More information and contact information for reservations can be found in the flyer above.

Master of Wine Jo Ahearne Has National Media Photoshoot at Bastijana

Bastijana was delighted to welcome Master of Wine Jo Ahearne to Jelsa yesterday evening, having accepted a request from the national media to host a photo-shoot of the Australian wine expert's visit to Hvar.

Jo, who discovered the wines of Hvar at the recent Dalmacija Wine Expo in Split, is on a week-long fact-finding trip to Hvar to investigate possibilities within the Hvar wine industry.

Jo's interview with the national media, and shots of Bastijana, will appear shortly. And today's interesting fact:

There are more astronauts than Masters of Wine, so we are delighted that Jo managed to find us!

Tomic and Hvar Wine Association in Action in Vrboska on Tuesday

One of the best ways to try Tomic wines is at one of the excellent tastings organised by the Hvar Wine Association. They are evenings of wine and song, set in pictureque locations such as the canal in Vrboska, which will be the first such tasting of the season.

Tomic wines will be present, along with several other winemakers, from 21:00 on Tuesday, July 15 on the second bridge in Vrboska.

This will be followed on July 19 by the Bogdanusa Evening in Svirce, a chance to sample Hvar's most famous indigenous white wine variety, as well as some excellent Dalmatian traditions, including a rare game of zoga falo - check out the video below for more.

Tomic Wine Boutique Opens for Season in Downtown Jelsa

Looking to sample the wines of Hvar in an informative and social environment?

Bastijana Wine Boutique opened for the season last night, as master of ceremonies Ivo welcomed the first guests of the summer into the basement of the family home of winemaker Andro Tomic.

The wine boutique, which is 30 metres into the old town past the main church behind Jelsa's main square, will be open daily from 19:30 to 24:00, with the full range of Tomic wines on sale.

Please note that, due to Croatian regulations, apart from a small taster, it is only permitted by law to sell wine by the bottle. Before this puts you off, there is some good very good news for consumers: the wines will be sold at retail prices and not wine bar prices, meaning that you will be able to taste Tomic wines at the very best prices, with the wine boutique ambiance thrown in for free!

Some of the Finest Wine Tasting.... Sorry Italy, Croatia Has You Beat!

These are busy days for Bastijana, with several groups daily coming to the winery for wine tastings. The cool temperature in the basement and the chance to sample a range of great wines is becoming a popular activity on Hvar.

Yesterday was no exception, and Bastijana was delighted to see the positive feedback from one guest, who stated that Croatian wines are better than Italian. While one can debate that point, it is great to see that the quality wines of Croatia, and the Tomic range, are getting more international exposure.

If you would like to organise a wine tasting with us in Jelsa, please contact us via our website.
